World Museum Liverpool

 From exploring the depths of outer space and discovering treasures across the globe, to meeting live creatures and getting up close with dinosaur skeletons, the World Museum is the perfect family day out in Liverpool. Spread over five individually themed floors, there is plenty to keep your kids amused on a rainy afternoon.

The museum features an impressive range of collections and displays across a whole host of different subjects, from life sciences to human cultures from around the world. So, whether you take a journey through time to Ancient Egypt to find out more about mummies, pyramids and hieroglyphs, or take a deep sea dive into the ocean at the aquarium to discover tropical fish from all over the world, you’re guaranteed to lose yourself during your visit.

From live performances and lectures by experts, there is always something to see at the World Museum. You’ll also have the opportunity to get hands-on, whether you’re inspecting ancient artefacts or examining creepy crawlies in the bug house.

Open from 10am to 5pm every day, the World Museum offers free entry and can be found on William Brown Street.

ODEON IMAX Cinema

Why not head to ODEON Cinema? With 18 high quality screens, including RealD 3D and IMAX, as well as a wide selection of delicious snacks available, from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to freshly made popcorn, it’s the ideal place to go if you want to relax and let your little ones lose themselves in a good story on a rainy day.

What’s more, every Saturday and Sunday, you can take advantage of ODEON Kids screenings which offer discounted tickets at for you and your little ones. Whether you decide to see the latest fairytale fantasy or animated action flick, the whole family can become immersed in movie magic for just £2.50 per person.

Here, you’ll have access to the Gallery bar where you can fill up on unlimited refreshments, as well as the opportunity to get comfy in extra wide seats with the best view of the screen – an experience your kids are bound to love.

British Music Experience

The British Music Experience is an exhibition which offers a look at some of the country’s finest artists and musical groups, from The Beatles and David Bowie to Oasis and Adele, telling their stories through costumes, memorabilia, instruments and performances.

The exhibition is a great place for visitors of all ages, providing fun and engaging interactive activities for the whole family. Upon your visit, you can grab an activity sheet at the ticket desk which consists of puzzles and questions you and your little ones can complete as you make your way around. If you successfully complete the sheet, you can claim your certificate from the Merch Store.

During your visit, you can also test your moves at the ‘Dance The Decades’ experience or visit the Gibson Interactive Studio and play a real musical instrument. If singing is your thing, why not show off your voice in the vocal recording booth?

Liverpool Central Library

Liverpool Central Library is the perfect place to go with your kids when you want to escape the elements and do something fun and educational. Situated on William Brown Street, this grade II listed  library is set within a beautifully remodelled building and consists of a number of different rooms, including the Oak Room, Hornby Library, and Picton Reading Room complete with its striking domed ceiling.

Inside, you’ll find an impressive collection of literature which has been built up over the last 150 years, including rare prints and illustrations. There is also a children’s library which is stocked full of family-friendly reads for your little ones to bury their noses into. The library is free to join, and all loans are free too. So, why not take shelter from the rain and encourage your kids to get lost in a book?

The library has 150 computers and free WiFi throughout the entire building, and aside from books, you can borrow DVDs, CDs or play computer games for free on an Xbox 360. There is also an accessible area for children under the age of five where storytelling sessions and themed days are held.

 

Mattel Play! Liverpool

Mattel Play! Liverpool offers a whole host of fun kids’ activities in Liverpool, offering the ideal day out for families with youngsters. This indoor interactive playground consists of three uniquely themed zones – Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Thomas & Friends – all of which have been specially designed to let your child’s creativity run free.

Each zone is bursting with fun and exciting activities for your kids to get stuck into, including ball pools, lightbox sketching and sand pits. If you’re lucky, you may even be able to get up close and personal with some of your children’s favourite characters, including Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and The Fat Controller, who make appearances between 10am and 4pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. To commemorate your visit, there is an interactive photo experience where you can pose alongside your brood and take your memories home.

Located at the Royal Albert Dock, Mattel Play! Liverpool also has a shop packed with a wide selection of games, toys and clothing, as well as a cafe offering tasty snacks for hungry tummies and fantastic views across the dock.

 

 

There’s no denying that there are an abundance of fun family things to do in Liverpool. Whether you decide to cosy up to watch the latest flick, get lost in a book at the library or explore worlds gone by at the museum, your little ones are guaranteed to have a great time, regardless of the weather outside.
