Join us on Saturday 23 August with a Walk of Remembrance as we come together for Slavery Remembrance Day.
We will mark Slavery Remembrance Day on Saturday 23 August hosting a part of the Walk of Remembrance at Sugar House Steps on Thomas Steers Way.
The walk will comprise key sites around the city, pausing for moments of reflection, performance and historic insight, before culminating with a masquerade and libation, performed at the historic waterfront.
The event begins at 12noon in Williamson Square with an introduction from Michelle Charters before moving through the city with stops at Clayton Square, the Bluecoat arriving at Liverpool ONE’s Sugar House Steps around 1.30pm.
The procession will be accompanied by a series of performances and talks from Elliss Eyo Thompson, Felix Ologbosere, Yusuf Sani, Khan Odita, Congolese Association, Adam Andre and Positive Impact.
After the walk there will be a Masquerade and Libation ceremony on the waterfront, which is a commemorative ritual, honouring and remembering the ancestors who have gone before us.
