Best Christmas Drinks

The must-have accessory this festive season isn't a partywear piece; it's a Christmas coffee cup! And red is definitely your colour. We've picked out the tastiest festive drinks available this Winter.

Should we just start naming the seasons after coffee shop products? Because we all know Autumn isn’t Autumn – it’s Pumpkin Spiced Latte season. And now it’s officially Red Cup season. Or, as some might call it, “Winter”? Something about different coloured coffee cups makes us feel festively giddy and going for coffee is suddenly our top priority. We’re not entirely sure why…

But anyway, they say it’s what’s on the inside that counts and these Christmas themed cups are filled with the most delicious, warming drinks. How will you ever decide which one to have? We’ve come up with the idea of a “coffee shop crawl” – it’s like a pub crawl but a festive caffeinated version. Make your way around Liverpool ONE and sample all of these sweet delights. By the time you’re done, you’ll be buzzing and ready to tackle the Christmas shopping.

The Starbucks red cups are synonymous with the start of the Christmas season (and coincidentally came out on the same day that we turned on our Christmas lights!) and the 2016 red cups don’t disappoint. Each one has been designed by Starbucks lovers around the world. Kind of like when you see artists doodling masterpieces on their regular Starbucks cups. There are ten designs, so more than enough to try each of their festive flavours! Are you a Toffee Nut? Or an Eggnog?

Toffee Nut Latte
The rich, buttery flavour of sweet toffee is combined with the warmth of toasted nuts and blended with a smooth espresso and velvety steamed milk; topped with whipped cream and toffee nut sprinkles.

Gingerbread Latte
Sweet and delicately spicy gingerbread flavours mingle with their classic espresso and steamed milk, topped with a gingerbread whipped cream and a wafer topping.

Eggnog Latte

Costa Coffee

Kitsch, gaudy, fun – however you describe Christmas jumpers, you secretly love them. This year’s Costa Coffee Christmas cups look like they’re wrapped in the sweetest knits. Do you identify with the penguin? Perhaps the snowman? Or good ol’ Santa? And the cups aren’t the only new addition for Winter. This year it gets way chocolatey, with a limited edition LINDT HOT CHOCOLATE. Yep, as if it wasn’t enough that there’s now a Lindt shop in Liverpool ONE, Costa Coffee are liquifying one of our favourite chocolates. Very indulgent and very necessary for a mid-shopping pit-stop.

Caffè Nero

As they say in Italy, buone feste – that’s “seasons greetings”! We’ve always thought of Caffè Nero as the more grown up coffee shop. You know, the kind of place you’d go with a book to sink into one of their brown leather armchairs for the afternoon but then end up browsing Instagram on your phone. Well their Christmas cups are definitely the most sophisticated of the lot this year. Is it a bit weird to aspire to be a character on a coffee cup? Because we really want to be the lady with the dalmatian.

Smooth, rich, and nutty, add a touch of praline to your festive drink. Finished with cream and a swirl of caramel.

Sweet and ever so slightly bitter amaretto, this almond flavour is folded into smooth milk, with a finish of cream.

Spiced Orange
Fragrant orange is dashed through your festive drink, with a dusting of warm cinnamon and chocolate sprinkles.

A taste of traditional Italian dessert, complementing coffee or chocolate for a smooth, sweet finish.

Salted Caramel
Caramel, with a touch of salt, adds a velvet undercurrent to your beverage. Comes topped with cream and a flourish of caramel sauce.

Hotel Chocolat

Did you know that Hotel Chocolat had a cafe? Hidden away at the end of Peter’s Lane are the richest hot chocolatey drinks that every chocoholic needs to try, including their Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. So good that it’s worth breaking your diet for. And this year they’ve Christmas-fied the hot chocolate with a touch of mandarin. Calorific!

Mandarin and Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate
Real pressed mandarin, melted salted caramel chocolate, Cocoa Whip and a sprinkling of caramelised orange pieces.
