9 things to buy in January

Shop savvy and know how to use the January sales to pick up a bargain. And we don’t mean the impulse-buy kind of bargain! The Winter sales are a great time to take advantage of reductions for those essential products that you’ll need all year round. We’ve picked out 9 items to consider buying this month that’ll save you money in the long run.

Keep an eye out for a Winter coat in the January sales. Good quality coats can be a bit of an investment but if you shop around you can find a classic style for up to 50% off. You may usually be a high street shopper, but this is a good opportunity to shop higher end while it’s reduced and to find a luxe piece. Avoid thin coats that won’t keep you warm and invest in a wool or down coat to get the best value for money.

Think long-term and to pick up a pair that’ll last you at least another two Winter seasons. Forgo anything trend-led. Yes, those boots you drooled over two months ago are 60% off, but you can guarantee you’ll forget about them by Summer. Look for real leather with a sturdy sole. Black chelsea boots or heeled ankle boots will go with everything.

Some suits are a fraction of the usual retail price at the moment. If you wear one everyday for work, or know you’ll need one for an occasion this year, now is a great time to pick one up. A classic navy one suits a multitude of occasions.

Christmas decorations and cards

Only 11 months until Christmas! It may be the last thing you’re thinking about but you’re never going to not need to wrap presents or write Christmas cards. If you buy the wrapping paper etc now, that’s one less thing to remember when next December arrives. Tree decorations, string lights and festive ornaments are all reduced too. Stock up and stash them away with the tree now to free up that cash for buying gifts towards the end of the year.

Stocking fillers

Gifting stocking fillers will be reduced because shops are trying to get rid of Christmas stock. However, most of these aren’t seasonally themed, so you could get organised and stock up for small presents for Valentine’s Day and birthdays throughout the year.

Bedding never goes out of style! If yours are looking a bit worn, use the sales to pick up some fresh sheets and covers. This is particularly great for savings if you have a king size bed, which can often cost almost double the price of a single bed.

There are £100s of savings across a variety of technology if you’re thinking about updating your home or looking for something new to play with. The most popular are TVs, cameras and laptops. Did you get a gadget for Christmas? Look for compatible accessories in the clearances.

Beauty and skincare

Lots of gift sets will be reduced to clear because they have Christmas-themed packaging. If you have certain products that are always in your skincare routine, it’s worth checking out the sales to stock up. Look out for cleansers, moisturisers, your favourite perfumes and bath toiletries.

New SS17 collections

Of course, January isn’t just about the sales. New season stuff is starting to sneak into stores! If you received store vouchers or a Liverpool ONE Gift Card for Christmas, save it for new season items, rather than sale stock.
