Case Study: Liverpool ONE Foundation 2017

Comics Youth, a community interest company led by young people, helps other young people tell their own stories by creating and publishing comics.

Through art and literature, peer mentoring and creative workshops, Comics Youth help young people talk about their experiences and begin conversations about mental health, wellbeing, and issues including bullying, self-harm, gender identity and sexuality.

The Comics Youth team have been awarded funding grants twice from the Liverpool ONE Foundation, once in 2015 and again in 2017. In that time, they’ve expanded the delivery of their sessions from their base at Centre 63 to YPAS and Central Library Liverpool. They’ve also undertaken new projects like ‘Illustrating Futures’: a collaborative project with the University of Liverpool that focuses on the relationship between comics and mental health.

We are proud to be able to support Comics Youth and their work offering socially isolated young people a chance to express themselves and develop their own narratives.

To summarise what the Liverpool ONE Foundation’s funding meant to them, Comics Youth have created us comic strip:Comic Strip - Liverpool ONE Community FundFor more information about the Liverpool ONE Foundation and to find out whether your organisation can apply for funding, click here.
