Dan Harden

Dan was nominated as a Community hero by Jonny, Yellow House’s Director, who said…

Dan Harden is the perfect Community Hero! Dan, who is profoundly deaf and cannot speak, has not let any of this stop him from creating joy and creativity throughout COVID-19. As part of Yellow House’s COVID-19 activities timetable Dan was keen to run his own workshops to teach people to sign. This grew into weekly session of 10 people resulting in everyone signing a cover of Let it Be by Beatles that Dan titled Signing Words of Wisdom.

Marc (Dan’s dad), how did Dan get into volunteering?

When Dan finished college he didn’t want to stay at home, but wanted to volunteer/give something back to the community. Hence, I contacted some organisations – whom I thought could possibly help.

He now volunteers at several different places, with great pride and commitment.

What inspires him to help others?

Dan likes to help people in his community, and to make things better. I think that he inspires other people.

What can people do to ‘light up Christmas’, and bring a smile to someone’s face this year?

Dan says: Be kind to one another.

Thank you, Dan!
