Beth was nominated as a Community Hero by Lauren, who said…

“I am nominating Beth because she has been wonderful over lock down, while lots of us were worrying about family and friends Beth was sitting at home thinking of ways to help. Beth took it upon herself to recreate a craft session that she had taken part in at WEB and so started to create fairy jars, then went on to sell these beautiful jars and raise money for WEB.

Beth has been terrific at fundraising and spreading the word about WEB. We wanted to nominate her to show how much we appreciate her.”

Beth, how did you get into volunteering?

I first met WEB nearly 5 years ago when I wasn’t in the best place with my mental health, but during my time at WEB they have helped increasing my confidence and self-esteem. 5 years on and I am in a much better place and feel so much more confident. I’ve done fundraising for WEB as a way of thanking them for all they have done for me. Even during lockdown they found ways to support me.

What inspires you to help others?

Seeing what a difference helping others can make has inspired me to fundraise for WEB, as well as volunteering for their young boys group for a short duration last year. Being able to help others is a passion of mine, having someone to speak to and someone who understood me really helped me, if I could do the same for others then I have fulfilled what I have set out to achieve.

What can people do to ‘light up Christmas’, and bring a smile to someone’s face this year?

I think showing compassion and love to one another can help to light up Christmas this year, showing acts of kindness to one another will certainly bring a smile to people’s faces. An act of kindness doesn’t need to be an expensive gift, but simply smiling at someone or a message of support to a friend or family member can really make the difference this Christmas especially with the current circumstances. It would be nice to shed some light on a very difficult year for everyone.

Thank you, Beth!
