Tate Liverpool opened to much acclaim in 1988 – it was seen as a ground-breaking moment of recognition of Liverpool as an important centre of culture. Housed in a converted warehouse within the Albert Dock on Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage waterfront, the building was given a major overhaul in 1998 to create additional gallery space. The Tate Liverpool is a firm favorite with local school children, first time visitors to the city and those seeking out artistic inspiration.
