Occasionwear for the Races

Check out top fashion tips for the races from Martine Alexander - Liverpool ONE's personal stylist.

It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about what we’re going to wear for the races and how will we win that coveted ‘best dressed’ award!

My insider tip, as a stylist, would be to make the look your own! Think outside the box, experiment with your style and the look you’re going for. If you usually buy your outfit from one store, look for shoes in an independent shoe store where you have more choice than just one pair and buy your fascinator and bag from a different store. There’s nothing that says you have to match everything together!

A great way to create your signature look is to add a different colour to your race day outfit. I always suggest 3 colours (maximum) in an outfit if it’s all block colour and no print – this keeps the outfit looking effortless and not a mish-mash of colours. If there’s a print involved, try and pick a different colour in the dress to match up, rather than picking the obvious colour most people will go for!

My third and final tip is to buy something you’ll wear again! There’s nothing worse than buying something and once you’ve worn it once, it never comes out of your wardrobe again. Buy shoes that you can wear with other pieces in your wardrobe and a clutch that will go with everything!

Until next time...
