Tickle the Ivories Festival Returns to Liverpool ONE

Tickle the ivories

There’ll be music on the streets this summer when Liverpool ONE transforms into a live music venue and five pianos take centre stage for the piano busking festival.

Organised in partnership with Open Culture, Tickle the Ivories will return for a second year from 7th July to 16th September, 2012. The ten-week piano festival is open to everyone from professional to amateur players they are all invited to book free timeslots to perform on and around the pianos.

Last year’s Tickle the Ivories was a huge success with over 900 musicians taking part and almost 4000 hours of performance. From jazz to blues, classical to experimental there was a huge array of performers including solo classical pianists, 70-strong choirs, break dancing groups, school orchestras, and improvised comedy and theatre groups. Worldwide chart topping star Sharon Corr from The Corrs even took part!

Charlotte Corrie, Director, Open Culture said: “Tickle the Ivories was a massive success last year, so we’re really excited to be putting on such an original event again this year. Liverpool ONE provides a great platform for people of all ages, abilities and musical tastes to show off their skills so I’m sure this year will be just as, if not more, successful than last year.”

Donna Howitt, Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE said: “Last year many of our visitors commented on the great atmosphere that Tickle the Ivories created and I’m sure this year’s festival will be just as exciting and vibrant. With our new Piano Lounge too it will give people the chance to sit back and enjoy the music.”

As well as the five stationary pianos there will be the Tickle on Tour piano. From Albert Dock to Liverpool Central Station the touring piano will explore the city.

There are also freeplay sessions each day, where any member of public can play without pre-booking. And the best thing is that all performers taking part in Tickle the Ivories are licensed to busk and keep all the proceeds they make.
