Fun Squad See Fireman Sam!

We have assembled the Fun Squad, made up of intrepid youngsters who really know how to have fun. They will go on missions to review the best activities and events at Liverpool ONE, and will report back to you with everything they’ve been up to. This week our youngest Fun Squad members - Emma and James Savage from Formby, 2- and 4-years old respectively, went to the first free mini-show at Chavasse Park - Fireman Sam: Extra, Extra Read All About It. Their mum, Louise, tells us more about their day out...

My children, Emma (4) and James (2), are massive Fireman Sam fans, so when Liverpool ONE invited us down to the first of its free live shows with TV characters, we jumped at the chance. It was a particular treat for Emma, whose birthday was just a few days earlier. She even had a Fireman Sam cake on the day, so the show was perfect for her!

On Saturday 27 July, there were four performances of the Fireman Sam mini-show at The Dome in Chavasse Park. Fortunately, the weather was glorious and the park is my favourite place to be in the city when it’s like that. We went to the first of the four performances, at 12.30pm.

The show was really good and all of the kids in the audience loved it. A particularly nice touch was the deckchairs provided, which meant I could soak up the sun while the kids danced, sang along and wore themselves out!

The show was called ‘Extra, Extra: Read All About It!’ and focussed on Sam helping out Naughty Norman after his lies get him into trouble. There was lots of music and singing along which everyone was encouraged to join in with and they both loved the audience participation element.

Afterwards we went to PizzaExpress, for a much-needed spot of lunch. With it being such a beautiful day, it was the perfect opportunity to sit out on the terrace. We all had pizza and the staff were really accommodating. For a moment I felt like I was in the Mediterranean!

There are two more character shows, Fifi & the Flowertots (3 August) and Angelina Ballerina (10 August). If you’re looking for things to do over the next couple of weekends, I can’t recommend it highly enough; it’s free, in a beautiful setting and the kids absolutely love it.
